Traditional Chinese: 溪頭妖怪村

Pinyin: Xī tóu yāo guài cūn

The journey from Taipei Main Station to Taichung Railway Station requires approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes via the Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA). One can also opt to take the High Speed Railway (HSR) which only takes about 25 minutes. The pricing for TRA is NTD356 a single journey while HSR costs more than NTD700 one way. All train tickets can be purchased online.

If one takes TRA, one will need to walk to Gancheng bus station that is around 10 minutes away from Taichung train station to catch a shuttle bus to Xitou which is another 1.5 hours away from Taichung. For those taking HSR to Taichung, the shuttle station to Xitou is conveniently located on the ground floor of THSR Taichung station. The shuttle journey from Gancheng bus station to Xitou costs NTD160 two ways. Remember to queue up for your return seat number and shuttle time as each shuttle only has limited seats to accomodate passengers on hourly basis. The last bus from Xitou back to Taichung leaves at 17:30.

Personally, I think it’s a waste of time travelling all the way to Xitou. The Monster Village was not that impressive. If you are doing a day trip and have limited time in Taichung, the Rainbow Village might be a better option. The attractive Rainbow Village is just 45 minutes away from Taichung city centre.

Traditional Chinese: 燈會

Pinyin: Dēng huì

A once a year not to be missed event held nearby the THSR Taichung station. Festival began from 27 Febuary 2015 to 15 March 2015. Entrance fee is free but they definitely do not compromise on the quality of the exhibits.
